Ramside Hall is a hidden gem in the UK, offering a unique blend of luxury, golf, and entertainment that should not be missed. Located just a three-hour train ride from London, this Durham-based hotel is a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts and families alike. The resort's class and regality are immediately striking, from the well-maintained grounds and structures to the impressive collection of cars in the car park, including a Bentley service on-site. However, it's the addition of The Pin, an entertainment center, that truly sets Ramside Hall apart from other golf resorts.
The Pin is perhaps the best sports bar I've seen in the UK. It features big screens adorned with sports memorabilia, a tonally accurate menu with a variety of options, and a main bar flanked by a bowling alley and a two-tier, 43-bay driving range with TopTracer technology. The VIP service at the driving range, where you can enjoy unlimited golf balls, your own beer tap, a private lounge area, and a dedicated host for two hours, is a unique and exciting experience. This facility is a sweet spot between attracting young people and the golf club's 300-plus members.
The golf courses at Ramside Hall are also exceptional. The Prince Bishop's Course is a par 72 beauty that starts with an immediate dogleg right par four. The condition of the course is up there with any championship course I've played in the country, with true greens and well-maintained fairways. Water comes into play around the middle holes, and the course features a drivable par four and a fine finish with a 302-yard par four flanked by opulent treehouses on the left and the resort's spa on the right.
The Cathedral Course, while not quite finished yet, has gorgeous views of the north-east countryside and a different style and option. It features three downhill par threes and a steep, uphill par four, as well as a few memorable holes. The course has a championship feel and delightful views, making it a worthwhile overnight trip.
What sets Ramside Hall apart from other golf courses is the well-rounded package it offers. The resort has a classy hotel, excellent spa and swimming pool, and a variety of food options, including a nice buffet-style breakfast, dinner at Charcoa, and The Rib Room for all things meat. The rooms feel luxurious, with especially impressive bathrooms and beds, and good TV offerings. However, what really makes Ramside Hall stand out is the combination of golf, entertainment, and luxury in one place.
In my opinion, Ramside Hall is a hidden gem that should not be missed. It's a unique blend of luxury, golf, and entertainment that offers something for everyone. The resort's class and regality, combined with the exceptional golf courses and The Pin, make it a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts and families alike. Personally, I think Ramside Hall is a great example of how a golf resort can offer a well-rounded package that appeals to a wide range of visitors.
